Rebeca Monteiro Neves

I was born in 1987 in Lisbon, Portugal. My roots come all the way from Africa, my heart is Portuguese, but my soul is free.
From 2001 to 2004 I studied ‘Coordination and Fashion Production’ at the Magestil Fashion School in Lisbon.

In 2005 I completed an internship at ‘Teatro Politeama’, a well-known musical theater in Lisbon, which opened my eyes to the world of costumes. So I applied to the ESTC- Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema in 2006 in order to study ‘Costumes and Set Design’. After three years I completed my bachelor’s degree, including an inspiring Erasmus semester at the KUG - Kunstuniversität Graz, Austria.
During this semester abroad, I fell in love with the city and its friendly lifestyle, so I decided to stay. The KUG kindly accepted my request to study further subjects that haven't been covered in former university studies, such as costumes and set design for opera and musical.

In 2012 I finished my thesis and proudly received my Master of Arts degree from Prof. Hans Schavernoch. A special scholarship was given to me, which allowed me to financially support my new life in Graz.

I have gained a lot of experience in the costume world, working as a costume assistant with a great variety of different designers, such as Peter Corrigan, Anne-Marie Woods, Anne Marie Legenstein, Anette Braun, Daria Kornisheva, Alexia Redl and many others. Also, I completed several internships at ‘Art und Event Theater Service’, where I was able to improve my skills in crafting costumes, hats, masks and puppets. I have been working on different projects for the screen together with directors Paul Meschùh and Markus Müller. The dance world was opened to me by Darrel Toulon and the joyful children’s theater and musicals by Michael Schilhan.

You can find me in Graz, usually in company of my lovely French bulldog Misfit, who teaches me to take life simple and magical, enjoying the present day.
I also have many hobbies like tattooing my friends, playing bass in a very loud band, aggressive quad skating, roller derby, hula hooping, stitchery, learning how to be a grown up and searching for new hobbies!
